Wild Basket Making Course

2 day course. February 23rd and 24th £150

Learn about all the wild materials that are great for weaving into baskets. Learn how to harvest and prepare the rods and then make your own beautiful colourful unique basket to take home.

Suitable for beginners and more advanced basketmakers.

The course takes place in the woodland and involves walking around the woods. The terrain is steep in parts and can be muddy.

Hot drinks and snacks provided around the fire. Please bring your own lunch.

Split Hazel Basket making with Ruth Pybus

2 day course, 30th and 31st March. £190

Hazel can be split into strong thin rods to make beautiful baskets. Ruth spent time researching traditional hazel basketry in Wales and has been teaching the techniques since 2005. It is so great that she can come to Moreton Wood to share her knowledge and skills. Ruth has also produced a documentary dvd showing the skills, techniques and history of Hazel basketmaking, that is available from the Basketmakers Association website.

This course is suitable for people with some knowledge of greenwood working and using hand tools. You will learn how to peel and rive coppiced hazel and to dress weavers and ribs to make a small hazel basket.

All tools and materials will be provided.

Hot drinks and snacks also provided around the fire. Please bring your own pack lunch.

A fun and creative day in the woods making banners for the community art event Celebrating Ancient Trees Through Art on 2nd December 2018.

This event is co hosted with Back from the Brink - Naturebftb.co.uk - a National Lottery-funded collaboration of conservation organisations working to save England’s most threatened species - to create the event as a moving ceremony of respect for the more than 2000 species that rely on ancient trees.
